Why do I receive blank e-mails?
There are two known reasons why this might happen:
1. Your e-mail client does not support a HTML format.
And/or
2. Your company is using an anti-spam package called SurfControl. SurfControl has a bug in it, which strips out the content of some HTML e-mails. They are aware of the issue and plan to produce a bug fix for it.
The solution to the problem is to change your profile to receive plain text messages only.
To change your profile, login to the rims.org website and click on Membership -> Update profile and at the bottom of the screen, select "Plain Text" as your e-mail preference.
What is RSS?
RSS in its most current form stands for "Real Simple Syndication". Put simply, RSS is a way for you to keep up-to-date on your favorite web sites, as the RSS "feed" (the file that holds the information) is generally automatically updated when the site's content is. This way you can stay informed of changes and updates at the drop of a hat through one of multiple avenues.
How do I "subscribe" to an "RSS feed"?
Most modern browsers (FireFox, Internet Explorer 7, Safari) have built-in support for RSS feeds, usually in the form of "Live Bookmarks" (FireFox) or "Favorites" (IE7). Whenever the feed is updated, so are the bookmarks, keeping you instantly informed of content changes on your favorite sites. When you browse to an RSS file, you will be asked if you wish to "subscribe" to the "feed". You will then be prompted to save the feed as you would an ordinary "bookmark" or "favorite".
There are also programs that collect the data from RSS feeds that you have subscribed to, and display the information in more extravagant ways than a simple bookmark. These programs are widely known as "aggegators" and work in very much the same way as an email program. The difference is that the content of the web page that generated the feed is displayed instead of an email message.
