In Coface’s recent 2026 Risk Survey report, risk and finance leaders noted that risk teams play an important role in the growth decisions of commercial teams involved in sales, trading and expansion, but often at different stages of the process. The report noted that 24% of commercial teams always involve risk teams starting at the idea stage; 34% often involve risk teams, but usually once the direction is clear; and 24% sometimes involve them when exposure feels material.

Overall, only 28% of respondents said they view risk teams as a strategic growth partner. The report said organizations need to ensure that early risk management involvement translates to measurable commercial influence by enabling risk teams to not just assess decisions, but actively shape them.
